System SAN Administrator

Position Summary
The System SAN Administrator, a senior and highly technical hands-on role, must possess an intermediate to advanced level of experience working with Microsoft and MAC operating systems, Microsoft Server 2003/2008, SharePoint (MOSS) 2007 and VMWare/NetApp. The System SAN Administrator must be able to design and manage application technology, server configurations, high availability clustering and system architecture. This person will drive the internal NetApp and VMware roadmap and best practices, lead server and vm installations and facilitate effective and efficient interconnectivity of the Learning.com network. This role will work with IT Management to document and implement best practices in server management, redundancy and recovery to improve the quality of service the company provides its employees, contractors and visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Work in VMWare/NetApp environment and lead application installation projects based on best practices, methodologies and processes.
    • Must be able to effectively troubleshoot storage availability, connectivity and performance issues from the file system through to the physical drive.
    • Consolidate disparate systems into virtualized environment.
    • Recommend maintenance and code upgrades of all storage devices and associated software.
  • Perform Windows 2003/2008 server installations and upgrades without assistance.
  • Support and implement high availability configuration of all critical business applications.
    • Plan and perform failover testing and troubleshooting.
    • Analyze application performance. Conduct performance tuning and capacity planning.
    • Implement SNMP and other monitoring solutions.
  • Assist and coordinate updating internal applications and web servers (JIRA, Confluence, SharePoint)
  • Develop (shell and Perl scripting) system tools and utilities to simplify, automate and support IT and business operations.
  • Establish & maintain technical standards, server security policies and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Plan and deploy HW and SW inventory control, patch management and anti-virus solutions.
  • Review, reengineer, test and deploy improved Group Policies.
  • Mentor more junior administrators regularly.
  • Be ready to perform helpdesk tasks and own helpdesk tickets.
  • Assist with other FY10 infrastructure, system and telephony projects as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Proven 4-6 years experience with MAC and Windows desktop support, 32 and 64 bit operating systems, network appliances and VMware solutions.
  • Deliver Enterprise-level expertise in two or more of the following areas:
    • SAN and storage delivery/management (RAID, snapshots, etc.)
    • ESX servers in a small-to-medium enterprise utilizing features such as HA and DRS
    • Windows server infrastructure installation, integration and maintenance leveragin Active Directory
    • End-to-end email delivery solutions and deployments
    • SharePoint (MOSS) server farm setup, site collection and permission management
    • Strong knowledge of DNS, TCP/UDP, IP protocols
  • 2 year degree or equivalent professional training preferred.
  • MCSA or equivalent required. NCDA, SNCP or similar storage certificate desirable.
  • Demonstrated expertise in all aspects of administration of Microsoft server environments, including installation, management, application deployment and security.
  • In-depth knowledge of hardware, software and network architectures.
  • Strong experience maintaining client/server operations, network topologies, internet services and SAN solutions. Cisco, F5, load-balancing skills desired.
  • Experience with a scripting language: ASP, VB Scripting, JScripting, batch files, scheduling.
  • Past employment in a hands-on, broad-based role, preferably in small to mid-sized environments (50-200 employees).
  • Solid time management and organization skills and the ability to document work performed effectively.
  • Highly-motivated self-starter and team player. Excellent customer service, communication, high-level of professionalism and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work after hours, coordinate downtime activities, and be reachable by phone during after-hour or weekend outages (limited).

Person must be able to lift 50 lbs, to include but not limited to monitors, laptops, desktops, TVs, and network hardware. Work involves walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls, and reaching with hands and arms. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Requires work after-hours to perform systems maintenance tasks, as deemed appropriate for performance and availability.
