Software Engineer for Content Development

Position Summary
The Software Engineer, Content Development role is responsible for the design, development and maintenance of the content management system and related tools for content integration into the Digital Learning Environment.

In this role, you will develop web-based tools to allow non-technical content editors to load, test, stage, edit and deploy content on the Learning.com DLE. You will work with developers in both the Content and Platform groups to integrate these tools into the greater system. Once complete, you will maintain the system including updates, new functionality and bug fixes. In addition you will work on new content applications to provide new and interesting ways to deliver web-based instruction to elementary students.

As part of the content team, you will be responsible for estimating work, developing software while following the software development process and assisting in quality assurance. Additionally you will be asked to participate in the system design and architecture process.

Software Engineers must be familiar with the standard concepts, practices, and procedures within software engineering generally.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop content management tools to integrate with the Digital Learning Environment
  • Work with development team and content providers to resolve technical issues and ensure successful integrations
  • Maintain content history in source control, and manage the content deployment process between environments
  • Proactively identify automation opportunities and accurately estimate their cost/benefit
  • Perform maintenance on existing and new content-related tools and processes
  • Prototype new content applications for web-based delivery to classrooms
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks as assigned by the Director of Content Development
  • Develop software as part of a software development team
  • Accurately estimate work and regularly communicate progress
  • Participate in quality assurance
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities
Individual contributor.

Required Qualifications

  • 2 to 4 years minimum software engineering experience in web-based services or software products.
  • Experienced ASP.NET developer with proficiency in Visual Studio, C#, ASP.NET and SQL Server
  • Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript, HTTP and general web application principles.
  • Proven teamwork skills to help deliver quality software on schedule
  • Good analytical, problem solving, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to solve a variety of technical problems
  • BS in technical field or related work experience

Preferred Experience

  • Experience developing or maintaining content management systems
  • Experience developing or programming with Adobe Flash and Actionscript highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with SCORM standard for online instruction
