Physical Science - Properties of Matter |
| 3 |
Instruction Module
Atoms and Molecules
Students are introduced to early chemistry concepts related to atoms and molecules. They learn that when two or more substances are combined a new substance may be formed with properties that are different form the original materials. Students observe characteristics of matter and know that living organisms and non-living materials are composed of small particles called atoms and have mass.

| 4 |
Game
Voyage of the Equinox
Students apply their understanding of the seasons and how they relate to the position of the Earth in orbit around the Sun as well as their knowledge of the phases of the moon.

Life Science - Oceanography |
| 5 |
Instruction Module
Oceans
Students are introduced to the Earth’s oceans. They learn that most of the Earth’s surface is covered with salt water, the oceans, and that these oceans have distinguishing geological, physical, and biological characteristics. Students are introduced to the concepts of sustainability and public policy and the potentially negative impact human activities can have on ocean environments and resources.

Life Science - The Human Body |
| 5 |
Instruction Module
Systems in the Human Body
Students are introduced to the major organ systems in the human body; the circulatory, respiratory, digestive, excretory, nervous, muscular, and skeletal. They learn how blood circulates through the body and how oxygen and carbon dioxide are exchanged in the lungs and tissues. The process and components of the digestive system are discussed and students learn the role of the kidneys in removing waste from the blood. Finally, students learn that the body is controlled and supported by the nervous, muscular, and skeletal systems. |
