Portland, Ore. – Feb. 11, 2010
Learning.com welcomes Diana Laboy-Rush as its new Product Manager for STEM solutions – supporting educators to integrate science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) instruction across their curriculum. Diana is an electrical engineer and a former math teacher, and has a passion for exposing children of all ages to the possibilities of STEM. Laboy-Rush's professional experience includes a combination of engineering, sales, and marketing roles as well as a innovative entrepreneurial venture focusing on STEM education.
Laboy-Rush brings 15 years of industry experience to Learning.com, including 10 years of community outreach program management with the Society of Women Engineers, where she managed such STEM education and enrichment programs as Expanding Your Horizons and Designing Women; conferences designed to introduce young girls to science and engineering; Get SET, a science and engineering camp and mentoring program for high school minority girls, and A Guiding Hand, a mentoring program for university women studying engineering. She joins Learning.com from her position as President and Founder of Portland Wiz Kids, a company that offers theme-based hands-on technology and engineering programs for elementary and middle-school children in school classrooms, after-school, and at summer camps throughout the Portland metro area. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from California State University, Long Beach and her Master’s degree in Engineering Management from Portland State University.
“Diana is an excellent addition to our efforts to deliver digital learning experiences that build student interest in and an understanding of STEM,” says William J. Kelly, Learning.com CEO. “Additionally, she will provide immense support to both district leaders and teachers to help them see ways to easily integrate these STEM solutions into their teaching.”
Learning.com offers teachers its Elementary STEM Solutions, a ready-to-use online curriculum designed to cultivate both students’ skills and their interest in science, technology, engineering and math. Districts and schools can now purchase Learning.com’s supplemental math, science and technology curricula together in one package and with the ability to mix, match and customize the content.
Research indicates that teachers need to spark students’ engagement and skills from the earliest grades in science, math and technology to keep them interested in these subjects in their later school years. The Learning.com integrated STEM solution makes it easy for districts to add a STEM focus to their elementary curriculum, and supports teachers with models of instruction for critical math, science and technology skills that are the foundation for a 21st Century Education.
